Dead Leaves

Background

Lyrics

Underneath the aspen tree
I tried to take a rest
But I got awoken from my sleep
The noise that disturbed my nest

Took a deep breath of the atmosphere
Stood tall on my two feet
But the wail of those who came before
up my spine, climbed and creeped

As the leaves began to fall
and the colors went all around
Orange, yellow, red in the air,
a dead rainbow on the ground

The spirit of life is waning
We know it'll be over soon
But every single morning
has a partner that's an afternoon

Underneath that aspen tree
I took my final step
The majesty of the snow capped peaks
Calmed any fear was left

Tilted my head up toward the sky
The autumn sun warmed my face
I felt so very lucky
For an afternoon of grace
